Scripture

psalm 23 revisited

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

This is a very familiar Scripture that can easily lose it’s impact if we have memorized it and can recite it. Take some time to sit with your Bible and/or journal and meditate on each section of Psalm 23, making it personal.

  • How has the Lord been your Shepherd?
  • In what ways does He meet your needs daily?
  • When have you felt God’s comfort?
  • Where do you see God’s goodness in your life?
  • How had God shown you mercy?

Exercises like these can deepen Scriptures meaning, making it come to life for YOU instead of just words on the page. Try it for other familiar Scriptures as well!
